It’s not very often you find a pet that “just fits” into your family. Carter was that pet. We adopted him about 7 years ago from the Humane Society in the county we live. At that time, he was a super skinny, shy little guy , who was also extremely kind and loveable. He had some medical issues that needed taken care of right away, but once we got those taken care of, he began to blossom into the loveable guy we grew to care for as an actual child. Even his doggy brother, Luther, and cat sisters, Butter and Scotch, loved him!
Carter loved to be pet, had the softest ears ever, and was the best snuggler! We always knew he’d likely be the first to go, but I don’t think my husband and I realized how quickly he would go. Over the course of a couple of weeks, his health began to deteriorate, and last Friday, he had pretty much decided enough was enough. Selfishly, I wanted to keep him around an extra day just to say my goodbyes, but in reality, I knew I was being selfish and that the best thing for him was for him to be put down. My husband and I were able to spend some time with him leading up to the appointment with the vet and while the procedure was being done. I had never experienced anything like it before, but it was good to be there, to have closure, to say our final goodbyes.
While it’s only been a few days since we said our final goodbyes, we still miss our little snuggle-bug, but know he’s much better off, likely running around and getting extra hugs and cuddles. Goodbye, my loving pup! Thank you for blessing our lives!!
