Okay so I went to see the movie Suicide Squad despite the numerous poor reviews I have heard from peers and other online sources. I will do my best to give you my thoughts and opinions on it without spoiling the movie for those who have yet to see the movie.
My conclusion of the movie is this: If you bought into the pre-release hype of the movie then there is a chance you will be disappointed. If you were like me and saw the trailer and thought that it looked interesting, and worth a watch, but didn’t look too much into it, then I think you will be satisfied. With that being said going into it, I was skeptical. I thought that it would be one of the movies where it was over hyped and they showed all the good parts in the trailers. I only felt that way because I kept seeing stuff on Twitter telling me so, but I have always been the kind of guy that wants to formulate my own opinion (except for the Never Back Down movies, but that’s a story for another time)
I had my concerns about Jared Leto and how he would fare as the Joker compared to Heath Ledger and his legendary role in The Dark Knight. I also had my concerns about Will Smith being in this movie, it just didn’t seem like a typical Will Smith role. I had few concerns about Margot Robbie I just hoped she looked good SPOILER ALERT…she did!
Jared Leto in my opinion did a fantastic job portraying the Joker. It is not a role you can compare to Heath Ledger because they completely modernized the Joker and brought him into today’s culture. I would rate his performance as a solid 8.5/10. If you go into this movie expecting him to pick right up in place of Heath Ledger then you will walk out of the theater angry.
Will Smith also surprised me. Although I originally didn’t think he fit into this cast, after watching the movie I couldn’t imagine it without him. He added some humor, some maturity and was a character you found yourself rooting for. I give Will a 9/10
Margot Robbie was the perfect mix of sexy and psycho as Harley Quinn. Every time she was on the screen you couldn’t look away, for more than one reason. She portrayed the role perfectly, and kept audience’s of all genders mesmerized. I rate her a perfect 10/10 but as far as Margot Robbie and her character in the movie a solid 8/10.
Enough with the actors and my attraction to Harley Quinn, lets talk about the actual movie.
Okay I can’t really say much without ruining it for you, so I’m going to give it my very best shot here…The story line is about what you would expect for a movie that is based on super villans. I would compare it to that of The Avengers. Where they give you a slight back story to each of the characters so you can kind of get to know them, before something crazy happens and it puts the entire world in danger. The Government realizes they could potentially use these bad guys for good and save the world, and that’s as far I will go.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie from start to end. No one is paying me to say that (although I am accepting offers) So this is your truly unbiased review. There was humor, action, and attractive people so what more can you ask for out of a movie.
Suicide Squad gets an 8/10 from this amateur movie critic, but more importantly don’t take Twitter opinions as fact, go see it for yourself and you be the judge. Then comment and let me know if you agree or disagree with my thoughts on the movie and tell me why I’m wrong or why I’m right!
